Garden landscaping in Dubai starts from AED 120 per m² for design and build at NAM Landscaping. What you pay in the end depends on the size of the garden, what you build in it and the condition of the site.
This guide explains landscaping cost in Dubai: the starting prices, what pushes a quote up or down and an illustrative example. It also lists ways to spend less without ending up with a garden you need to redo in two years.
Indicative landscaping prices in Dubai
The table below lists NAM Landscaping's starting prices. Treat them as "from" figures: a free site visit and a written quote confirm the real number for your villa.
| Item | Indicative starting price |
|---|---|
| Garden landscaping (design and build) | From AED 120 per m² |
| Hardscaping and paving, supplied and laid | From AED 75 per m² |
| Pergolas | From AED 650 per m² |
| Artificial grass, supplied and installed | From AED 35 (economy), AED 50 (mid-range), AED 75 (premium) or AED 90 (sports and pet) per m² |
| Smart irrigation system | From AED 2,500 per villa |
| Garden water feature | From AED 6,000 per project |
| Garden maintenance (small villa garden) | From AED 240 per month |
A "from" price is the bottom of a range, not an average. A simple, open garden with easy access can come close to it. A garden with raised levels, old paving to remove or a long carry for materials will cost more.
What decides the cost of landscaping in Dubai?
Most of the price comes from area, materials, groundwork, water, access and extras. Knowing these helps you see why two quotes for "the same" garden can differ.
Size and shape of the garden
Landscaping is mostly priced per square metre, so a bigger garden costs more in total. A garden with curves, steps or several levels usually costs more per square metre than a flat rectangle, because it takes more cutting, shaping and labour.
Materials
Material choice is often the largest swing. Natural stone usually costs more than concrete pavers, a timber deck usually costs more than gravel, and premium artificial grass costs more than the economy grade. The artificial grass grades above show the idea: the premium grade starts at more than double the economy grade because the pile is taller and is built to last longer (about 10 to 15 years against 5 to 7 years for economy).
Groundwork and soil
The ground has to be right before anything looks good. Levelling, removing old grass or rubble, bringing in fresh soil and fixing drainage are real costs, and they are easy to miss when you compare quotes.
Irrigation and water
Plants in Dubai need a reliable water supply, and summers are hot. A late-July 2025 forecast for Dubai reached around 41°C. An automatic system costs money up front, but a poorly planned one costs more later in wasted water and lost plants. Water bills also count toward running costs, so a lawn that needs frequent watering costs more to keep than gravel or mulched beds. Our garden irrigation guide explains the options, and the irrigation service page covers what a smart system includes.
Access and approvals
If materials must be carried through the house, or your community has rules about working hours and deliveries, the job takes longer. Ask your community developer whether they must approve the work before you start, because this can affect the timeline and sometimes the price.
Extras: lighting, shade and features
Pergolas, lighting, outdoor kitchens and water features each add their own line to the quote. They are the easiest items to postpone, which makes them useful when you are trimming a budget. See the pergola and shade structures page for the shade options.
How a landscaping quote is built: an illustrative example
This example only shows how the arithmetic works, using the starting prices above. It is not a real quote, because your garden will differ.
Say you have a 100 m² villa garden and want a full landscape, a smart irrigation system and a 30 m² paved seating area.
- Landscaping: 100 m² × AED 120 = AED 12,000
- Smart irrigation system: AED 2,500
- Paving: 30 m² × AED 75 = AED 2,250
Together that is AED 16,750 at the lowest "from" prices. Add a 12 m² pergola at AED 650 per m² (AED 7,800) and the starting total becomes AED 24,550.
These are minimums, so expect the real figure to be higher. If the paved area sits inside the 100 m², an itemised quote shows whether any area is counted twice. That is why you should ask for a written breakdown, not a single lump sum.
VAT may need to be added on top. The UAE standard VAT rate is 5%, so on AED 16,750 that would be about AED 838. Ask the contractor to say clearly whether the price they give you includes VAT.
For a smaller backyard the same method applies: a 40 m² space at AED 120 per m² starts from AED 4,800 before extras.
What is often not included in a landscaping quote?
A cheap-looking quote may simply leave things out. Before you sign, ask whether each of these is included, and get the answer in writing:
- Removing old plants, grass, paving or rubble, and taking it away
- Soil, compost and levelling
- Irrigation pipes, controller and any connection work
- Plants of the size shown (a small plant is cheaper than a mature one)
- Lighting, power points and electrical work
- VAT
- Maintenance after the work is finished
A garden is not finished on planting day. Plants need watering, trimming and replacement over time, so ask about the running cost too. Garden maintenance starts from AED 240 per month for a small villa garden, and the garden maintenance service and annual maintenance contracts pages explain how that is set up.
Affordable landscaping in Dubai: how to spend less
You can lower the cost without making the garden look cheap. The saving comes from choosing where to spend, not from cutting everything equally. These steps help most:
- Keep what already works. Healthy trees, usable paving and sound boundary walls cost nothing to keep, and removing them is a cost in itself.
- Do the hidden work properly. Spend on soil, drainage and irrigation first. Fixing these after planting means digging up what you just paid for.
- Phase the project. Build the structure and planting now and add the pergola, lighting or water feature later. An itemised quote makes this easy.
- Pick plants suited to the climate. Heat-tolerant plants are less likely to need replacing. Our guide to desert plants and trees for the UAE is a good starting point.
- Use mulch. According to the Royal Horticultural Society, mulch limits how much water escapes from the soil surface and suppresses weeds by blocking light. That can mean less watering and weeding over time.
- Be realistic about lawn. A large natural lawn needs regular watering and mowing, which adds to the running cost. Our best grass for Dubai lawns guide compares the options.
Cheap landscaping ideas for a villa garden in Dubai
Inexpensive does not have to mean plain. These ideas give the biggest visual change for the smallest outlay and suit most Dubai villa gardens. Several, such as edging, pots and mulch, need no builder at all.
Front yard
Focus on the path to the door and a few well-chosen plants in a defined bed. A clean edge, fresh mulch and two or three healthy plants usually look better than a crowded bed. For more ideas, see front yard and villa entrance ideas.
Backyard without grass
If you want no lawn, gravel, a small paved seating area and planted beds avoid the watering and mowing a lawn needs. Paving starts from AED 75 per m² supplied and laid, and our patio and paving ideas guide shows how to choose. If you still want a green surface, artificial grass starts from AED 35 per m² for the economy grade, and the artificial grass installation page lists the grades.
Borders, flower beds and small gardens
A defined border makes a bed look intentional, and simple edging in stone or pavers is a modest cost. For flower beds, choose a few plant types and repeat them instead of buying many single plants. The same logic applies in a small garden: fewer, better elements. See small garden ideas for Dubai and backyard landscaping ideas for layouts.
Porch and entrance
Pots, a tidy doorstep area and a clean, well-lit entrance cost little compared with rebuilding a garden. You can add lighting later through the landscape lighting service.
How to compare landscaping quotes
A lower price is only better if it covers the same work. Put the quotes side by side and check the following.
- Is it itemised? A single total hides what you are paying for.
- Is the scope identical? Compare area, materials, plant sizes and what is excluded.
- Is VAT clear? Compare all with VAT or all without.
- Who does the work? Ask whether the contractor's own staff do it or whether it is subcontracted.
- What is guaranteed? Ask about the workmanship guarantee and what it covers.

Getting an accurate price for your garden
The only reliable way to get a number is to have someone see the garden. A free site visit is where the garden, access and soil are assessed and your priorities discussed. You then receive a written, itemised quote before any work begins.
Have a rough budget and a list of what matters most ready, and be open about what you could delay. A clear brief helps the quote match what you want, and an itemised quote lets you adjust it line by line.
